India, Russia Eye Deeper Agricultural Ties
This intention was reaffirmed during discussions held between Modi and Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev in New Delhi on Thursday.
The meeting took place alongside the World Food India 2025 event, which is designed to draw investment and highlight India's food processing industry.
In a message shared on X, Modi stated, “We discussed ways to strengthen our win-win cooperation in agriculture, fertilizers, and food processing.”
The emphasis was on expanding mutual interests and leveraging synergies between the two nations in these key areas.
According to a statement from the Russian Embassy in New Delhi, one of the focal points of the discussion was the proposal to establish a BRICS Grain Exchange.
This initiative is expected to enhance agricultural trade among member countries by streamlining exchanges and boosting mutual supply chains.
Deputy Prime Minister Patrushev emphasized the importance of the relationship, saying, “Russia highly values its special and privileged partnership with India.”
He further noted, “India is one of Russia’s key allies in the international arena. Every year, Russian-Indian economic cooperation reaches increasingly impressive levels.”
Highlighting the growth in bilateral trade, he pointed out that in 2024, the trade turnover between the two countries hit an all-time peak.
Official figures from the Indian government indicate that the total trade volume between India and Russia reached $68.7 billion in the 2024–25 financial year, marking a significant milestone in their growing economic relationship.
